Message from IBC Chairman
Welcome,
The Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) is responsible for reviewing all research that involves the use of recombinant DNA
(modern biotechnology), biological agents and biohazards. The main aim of IBC is to assure compliance with Malaysia’s Biosafety
Act 2007 (Act 678) and Biosafety Regulations 2010 (MBR 2010) at the institutional level.
To address the biosafety and biosecurity issues, we have developed the AIMST Laboratory Biorisk Management Manual based on a
variety of recognised international and national resources.
AIMST Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) views this biorisk management manual as a ‘living’ document that can continue to be improved. Bearing in mind that biorisk management is not a one person’s responsibility; laboratorians, academics, and other stakeholders of the AIMST University may provide suggestions for further improvements in the effective implementation of the Biorisk Management System plan.
The IBC members are also engaged in research and do recognise the importance of effective biorisk management and compliance. IBC’s primary challenge is to make sure that all staff and students involved in biomedical and biotechnology research are aware of their roles and responsibilities.
As a team, we must work together to protect laboratorians and the surrounding community and environment.
Thank you,
