Biosafety and Biosecurity Month at AIMST University
28 March 2019: Safety of students, staff, faculty, visitors and surrounding environment is of prime importance to AIMST University. In this connection, AIMST University's Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) and ‘AIMST Occupational Safety, Health, and Environment Committee (OSHEC)’ has decided to observe April-2019 as ‘Biosafety and Biosecurity Month’. The theme of this ‘Biosafety and Biosecurity Month’ is “Beyond the Lab: Increasing the Visibility of Biosafety and Biosecurity”. The main aim of the exercise is to promote the importance of biosafety and biosecurity among students, staff and stakeholders of AIMST University.
To promote the importance of biosafety and biosecurity, jointly, the ‘IBC’ and ‘OSHEC’ has organised various programmes. As we are getting ready to implement biorisk management (BRM) system in university, we are going to launch the IBC website. ‘Biosafety Training Workshop’ is organised in collaboration with the Department of Biosafety, Malaysia. This workshop will be conducted on April 9, 2019. A ‘Symposium on Chemical, Biological, and Health Safety’ is organised in collaboration with the Institute of Chemistry and Kimia Malaysia. It will be held on April 16, 2019. A talk on fire safety and mock fire drill is also planned. Biosafety and Biosecurity Awareness: Poster Competition will be held at the end of April. Details of the events will be posted through emails.
