EMPOWERING FUTURE NURSES-COLLABORATION WITH PRINCE OF SONGKLA UNIVERSITY IN RENAL REPLACEMENT THERAPY

On 13 March 2024, we warmly welcomed the esteemed delegation from Prince of Songkla University (PSU) Thailand. In attendance at this event were Professor Dr. Yu Chye Wah, the Dean of the Faculty of Allied Health Professions, Deputy Dean Ms. Veni Chandrakasan, Ms. Wong Lai Kun, the Programme Coordinator for Post Basic Renal Nursing, and Ms. Komala, the Clinical Instructor. Madam Bunyawee Peang Rung Roge, Head of Department, Kidney Therapy Centre of the Songklanagarind Hospital, headed the delegates from the Prince of Songkla University. The partnership between the Kidney Therapy Center at Songklanagarind Hospital and the Faculty of Medicine at Prince of Songkla University has created the Nurse Practitioner Program in Renal Replacement Therapy. This unique opportunity promises to provide invaluable international practical experiences for our student nurses. This privilege will enrich their education and prepare them for the challenges of the healthcare landscape. The visit serves as an opportunity for approximately 50 student nurses and 8 preceptors to gain insights and hands-on experiences in critical areas such as the management of patients with CKD stage 5, treatment selection for patients (CAPD/haemodialysis/kidney transplantation), patients' quality of life improvement, and the management of dialysis patients with abnormal serology. We are confident that through shared experiences and collaborative learning, significant advancements in renal replacement therapy can be achieved, and we are optimistic that this partnership will continue to flourish, benefiting both institutions and ultimately improving patient care in the field of renal therapy.

We were honoured to host a delegation from the Malaysian Association of Company Secretaries (MACS) on 7 March 2024. ENRICHING OSCE EXPERIENCE-BRIDGING EDUCATION AND PRACTICE IN COMMUNITY PHARMACY

Figure-1Figure-2 Figure-3Figure-4 Figure-5Figure-6 On Monday, 29 January 2024, a total of 82 Year 3 Pharmacy students participated in the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) for the 'Community Pharmacy' course, held from 8 am to 1 pm. Ms. Ng Jing coordinated this course, with co-lecturers Asst. Prof. Sabri Hashim, Dr. Lim Khian Giap, and Ms. Teoh Sin Yee. The OSCE was enriched by the active involvement of appointed examiners, including pharmacists from the Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacy Practice Unit, such as Prof. Dr. Nahlah Elkudssiah Ismail, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Saraswathi Simansalam, Asst. Prof. Dr. Sam Aaseer Thamby, Dr. Lim Khian Giap, Asst. Prof. Sabri Hashim, Asst. Prof. Ganesh Pandian, Ms. Ng Jing, Ms. Ng Yee Mei, and Ms. Sireesha Paruchuri. Key contributions also came from examiners from the Pharmaceutical Technology Unit, Ms. Thanapakiam Ganeson, and the Pharmaceutical Chemistry Unit, Ms. Shalini Shanmugavelu. Distinguished alumni and MOU partners, including Mr. Tan Chan Wei, Ms. Lee Ying Hui, Mr. Ling Kuok Xu, Mr. Teo Liu Chiew (MOU partner-Mega Kulim Pharmacy), Ms. Teh Chai See (MOU partner-Mega Kulim Pharmacy), and Mr. See Wei Yuan (MOU partner-Alpro Pharmacy & Batch 11 alumnus), also contributed to the success of the examination. The valuable expertise of alumni and MOU partners, who currently serve as community pharmacists, significantly enhanced the overall experience for our students. We express our sincere gratitude for their unwavering support. Recognising the pivotal role of community pharmacists in the healthcare ecosystem, serving as a crucial link between patients and their medications, we acknowledge that their responsibilities extend beyond mere pill dispensing. Community pharmacists actively engage in supporting patients with medication adherence, offering strategies for better compliance, and providing counseling on proper medication usage. The OSCE, proved to be an engaging and enriching experience for our students, as they embraced the opportunity to apply their knowledge in a practical setting.

CROWNING MOMENTS: AIMST STUDENT COUNCIL INSTALLATION CEREMONY

An installation ceremony for the newly elected AIMST University Student Council members was held on 7th February 2024. The event was graced by the esteemed presence of the Honourable Vice-Chancellor, Snr. Assoc. Prof. Kathiresan Sathasivam, the AIMST senior management team, Deans and members of the Division of Student Affairs. Their participation added a touch of distinction to the occasion, emphasising the significance of the roles and responsibilities shouldered by the newly elected council members. AIMST community is confident that the Student Council will not only flourish but also emerge as a catalyst for positive change throughout the entire student body. EMPATHY IN ACTION: A TRANSFORMATIVE VISIT TO MOON CARE NURSING HOME BY PHARMACY STUDENTS AND FACULTY

On 8th January 2024, a group of 29 Year 4 Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) students, accompanied by three lecturers, embarked on a meaningful visit to the Moon Care Nursing Home (Sungai Lalang Branch) in Kedah. Their mission extended beyond conventional health assessments and medication reviews, as the group sought to instill a sustainable and compassionate ethos in their approach to elderly care. The students, through a combination of informative sessions and heartfelt interactions, aimed to underscore the importance of integrating sustainable healthcare practices and a holistic, caring mindset to meet the distinctive needs of the elderly population. This visit not only symbolised a commitment to advancing long-term well-being but also served as a testament to the pivotal role of compassionate care within the field of geriatric pharmacy. The lecturers who played pivotal roles in orchestrating this impactful visit were Ms. Ng Yee Mei, serving as the course coordinator, Mr. Ganesh Pandian B, the co-coordinator, and Prof. Dr. Nahlah Elkudssiah Ismail, the Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy who contributed as a co-lecturer. Their guidance and expertise facilitated an enriching experience for the students, reinforcing the importance of compassionate care and sustainable healthcare practices in the field of geriatric pharmacy.
