Programme Structure

Our BDS programme spans over five years, structured to create futuristic dentists equipped with both basic and advanced knowledge in the dental field.

The curriculum is divided into two phases:

  • Early Clinical Phase: Years 1 & 2
  • Clinical Phase: Years 3, 4 & 5

Early Clinical Phase:

Years 1 and 2 of the programme constitute the early clinical phase. During this phase, students focus on Basic Medical Science courses, which are integrated, and system based. These courses include Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Pathology, and Pharmacology. Additionally, students engage in Dental Courses covering both Basic and Clinical Dental courses, laying the foundation for their future clinical practice.

Clinical Phase:

Years 3, 4, and 5 mark the clinical phase of the programme. In this phase, students delve deeper into clinical practice, honing their skills and knowledge through hands-on experience and real-life patient interactions. The emphasis is on applying theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios, preparing students to handle a wide range of dental procedures confidently and competently.

Minimum Entry Requirements

  1. All applicants who enter a matriculation, foundation or pre-medical programme, except those with a degree qualification in arts or humanities, shall have passed and attained a minimum of the following at School Certificate level or its equivalent:

    Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 5 Bs each in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics (or Additional Mathematics) and another subject
    General Certificate of Education Ordinary (“O”) levels 5 Bs each in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics (or Additional Mathematics) and another subject
    United Education Certificate (UEC) B4 in 4 subjects i.e. Biology, Chemistry, Physics (or Mathematics or Additional Mathematics) and another subject
  3. All applicants, except those with a degree qualification in arts or humanities, shall have passed and attained a minimum of the following at:
    • Higher School Certificate level or its equivalent:

      STPM / A-Levels Grades BBB, ABC or AAC in 3 subjects i.e. Biology and Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics. (Grade C can only be in either Physics or Mathematics)
      AIMST Foundation in Science/Matriculation/Foundation in Science/Pre-medical course** (course is not less than 1 year in the same accredited institution) CGPA 3.0 (out of 4) in 3 subjects i.e. Biology and Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics
      United Education Certificate (UEC) B4 each in 5 subjects i.e. Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Additional Mathematic
      UNSW Foundation /MUFY/Western Australia Curriculum Council/ HSC Sydney Australia/ Trinity College Foundation Studies/ Australian Universities Foundation Programmes/ South Australian Matriculation/ Victorian Certificate of Education, Australia Year 12/ Ausmat Aggregate or average of 80% in 3 subjects i.e. Biology and Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics Or 80% ATAR provided the subjects include

      Diploma in Health Sciences (course is not less than 5 semesters or 2 1/2 years in the same accredited institution) CGPA ≥ 3.5 (out of 4)

    • Degree Level:

      Degree in Medical Sciences CGPA 3.3 (out of 4) 5-year undergraduate programme
      CGPA 3.5 (out of 4) 4-year undergraduate programme
      Degree in the Arts or Humanities CGPA ≥ 3.5 (out of 4) 5-year undergraduate dental programme
      CGPA 4.0 (out of 4) 4-year undergraduate programme and 3 Cs each in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, General Science, Mathematics or Additional Mathematics at SPM or it’s equivalent or An accredited bridging course

Notes:

  • Applicants shall be required to pass an aptitude test and/or an interview and/or a university entrance examination.
  • Malaysian citizen seeking employment in the public sector must fulfil the criteria set by the Public Services Commission of Malaysia (SPA).
  • A person with any of the following shall be disqualified from entry into a dental programme:
    • found guilty of offence(s) affecting the human body;
    • recent or serious dishonesty e.g., cheating at examinations, falsification of documents, plagiarism;
    • serious physical or mental disorder;
    • serious communicable disease(s)

HEALTH ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Prior to admission, all short-listed applicants are required to undergo a medical checkup to ensure they are free from communicable diseases such as HIV and Hepatitis; and to undergo immunisation against Hepatitis B.
