The Bachelor of Science (Honours) Biotechnology is a multi-disciplinary programme that was designed to expose students to science driven knowledge and skills for various applications in the field of Biotechnology. In their first year, students are taught the basic and fundamental knowledge of biotechnology. In their second and third years, the students are exposed to the various sectors of biotechnology such as medical biotechnology, virology, food technology, bioinformatics, metabolomics, environmental biotechnology, cell and tissue culture, genetic engineering, aquaculture, crop biotechnology and forensic science. Students perform a final year research project with dissertation, which trains them on analytical skills, time management and working independently. A 12-week internship stint at the end of their third year provides students with the opportunity to train in an industry of their choice either locally or internationally.

The Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs) are:

  • The programme aims to produce graduates who are knowledgeable and technically competent in biotechnology and their applications.
  • The programme aims to produce graduates who are effective in communication and demonstrate good leadership and teamwork qualities in an organization.
  • The programme aims to produce graduates who are capable of solving biotechnological problems innovatively and creatively, while taking into account the ethical and social issues.
