Programme Structure

Part 1: Coursework

  • This initial phase focuses on coursework designed to deepen your knowledge and expertise in medical physiology.
  • You can expect a combination of core courses covering fundamental physiological systems (cardiovascular, respiratory, etc.) and electives allowing you to specialize in a particular area for your thesis.
  • Include research methodology (RMSE)courses to equip you with the skills necessary for independent research.
Part 2: Thesis Research

  • This extended phase involves conducting original research under the guidance of a faculty supervisor.
  • You’ll delve into a specific physiological topic aligned with your chosen area of expertise.
  • The research culminates in a dissertation, a substantial document detailing your research methodology, findings, and contribution to the field of medical physiology.

Minimum Entry Requirements

QUALIFICATION  ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS 
Doctoral Degree by Research as of Programme Standards Medical and Health Science:
  1. A master’s degree accepted by the HEP Senate; or
  2. Other qualifications equivalent to a master’s degree that are accepted by the HEP Senate. .

    Note:

    1. No direct entry from bachelor’s degree level to doctoral degree level.
    2. Candidates with bachelor’s degree who are registered for master’s degree programmes may apply to convert their candidacy to the doctoral degree programmes within ONE (1) year after master’s degree registration, subject to:
      1. having shown competency and capability in conducting research at doctoral degree level
      2. rigorous internal evaluation by the HEP
      3. approval by the HEP Senate.
*Doctoral Degree by Research as of Standards for Master’s and Doctoral Degree:
  1. A master’s degree in the field or related fields accepted by the HEP Senate; or
  2. Other qualifications equivalent to a master’s degree recognised by the Government of Malaysia.
  3. Candidates without a related qualification in the field/s or working experience in the relevant fields must undergo appropriate prerequisite courses determined by the HEP.

*Applicable to all Doctoral programmes including Doctoral Degree by Retrospective or prior publication and TVET

A Bachelor’s degree with the following conditions:

  1. a bachelor’s degree in the field or related fields with first-class (CGPA of 3.67 or higher) or its equivalent from an academic or Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme;
  2. undergo internal assessment; and
  3. any other requirements of the HEP.

Bachelor’s degree candidates who are registered for master’s degree programmes may apply to convert to the doctoral degree programmes subjected to the following conditions:

  1. within 1 year for full time and within 2 years for part-time candidates;
  2. having shown competency and capability in conducting research at doctorallevel through rigorous internal evaluation by the HEP; and
  3. approval of the HEP Senate.
