EMPOWERING FUTURE NURSES-COLLABORATION WITH PRINCE OF SONGKLA UNIVERSITY IN RENAL REPLACEMENT THERAPY

On 13 March 2024, we warmly welcomed the esteemed delegation from Prince of Songkla University (PSU) Thailand. In attendance at this event were Professor Dr. Yu Chye Wah, the Dean of the Faculty of Allied Health Professions, Deputy Dean Ms. Veni Chandrakasan, Ms. Wong Lai Kun, the Programme Coordinator for Post Basic Renal Nursing, and Ms. Komala, the Clinical Instructor.
Madam Bunyawee Peang Rung Roge, Head of Department, Kidney Therapy Centre of the Songklanagarind Hospital, headed the delegates from the Prince of Songkla University. The partnership between the Kidney Therapy Center at Songklanagarind Hospital and the Faculty of Medicine at Prince of Songkla University has created the Nurse Practitioner Program in Renal Replacement Therapy.
This unique opportunity promises to provide invaluable international practical experiences for our student nurses. This privilege will enrich their education and prepare them for the challenges of the healthcare landscape.
The visit serves as an opportunity for approximately 50 student nurses and 8 preceptors to gain insights and hands-on experiences in critical areas such as the management of patients with CKD stage 5, treatment selection for patients (CAPD/haemodialysis/kidney transplantation), patients’ quality of life improvement, and the management of dialysis patients with abnormal serology.
We are confident that through shared experiences and collaborative learning, significant advancements in renal replacement therapy can be achieved, and we are optimistic that this partnership will continue to flourish, benefiting both institutions and ultimately improving patient care in the field of renal therapy.
