IMMERSIVE LEARNING – AIMST UNIVERSITY’S FOP STUDENTS VISIT PUSPEN IN PENANG

The Pharmacology, Toxicology & Basic Health Sciences (PTBHS) unit of the Faculty of Pharmacy (FOP) at AIMST University organised a transformative student visitation programme for Year 4 Semester 2 students to Pusat Pemulihan Penagihan Narkotik (PUSPEN) in Bukit Mertajam, Penang on 16 July 2024. A total of 37 students took part in this enlightening visit, accompanied by Asst. Prof. Dr. Sohrab Shaikh, Asst. Prof. Ts. Dr. Geethaa Sahgal, and Dr. Kamini Vijeepallam.

Spearheaded by the Deputy Dean of FOP, Ms. Thanapakiam, and Asst. Prof. Ts. Dr. Geethaa Sahgal, the team set off from AIMST campus at 8 am. Upon arrival, students were immersed in the critical mission of drug addiction rehabilitation, learning about the numerous rehabilitation centres across Malaysia and the stringent regulations governing them. They also toured the various operational units within PUSPEN.

This visit offered students invaluable opportunities to engage directly with staff members and clients, gaining profound insights into the rehabilitation programmes in Malaysia. The experience concluded at 12.15 pm, and the team returned to AIMST campus by 2.45 pm, deeply enriched and inspired by the day’s revelations.
