In inculcating moral obligation to preserve the environment and its resources for future generations, individuals have to think whether they are doing the right thing for the environment and to consider environmental protection as a sacred duty.

ROPE IN PHARMACISTS TO HELP ACHIEVE HERD

Malaysia faces challenges in achieving the 80 percent herd immunity to arrest the spread of Covid-19. The success of herd immunity depends on the availability of vaccines, manpower, vaccination centres and the populace's acceptance rate.
Mr. Ng Yen Ping, dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy AIMST University has suggested roping in pharmacists to administer the Covid-19 vaccination process in the country. The dean has also provided a list of countries that have permitted pharmacists to administer vaccines.

Cultivate reading habit among kids

Dr. Gokul Shankar Sabesan, Senior Associate Professor and Deputy Dean (Student Affairs) at the Faculty of Medicine, has contributed his views on reading habits among children and the difference in their liking.
 
With a significant decline in the reading habit among children of the present generation, who are mainly obsessed with electronic gadgets, Dr. Gokul has come up with reasons why children and teenagers should be encouraged to read.

Six ways to avoid Covid-19-associated black fungus

There is a prefatory siren with the emergence of Covid-19-associated Mucormycosis or CAM. Caused by Mucor, a ubiquitous organism present in the environment, Mucormycosis is popularly termed as "black fungus" which will cause infections ranging from loss of vision to death.
Being timely, Dr. Gokul Shankar, a Senior Associate Professor in Microbiology at AIMST University has come up with six precautions that should be taken to avoid the sickness through an article titled ‘Six ways to avoid Covid-19-associated black fungus’.

Remember M.O.U.T.H. C.A.N.C.E.R.

Dr. Vaishnavi Vedam, a senior lecturer at AIMST University’s Faculty of Dentistry has contributed an article on ‘Remember M.O.U.T.H. C.A.N.C.E.R.’ in The Star’s weekly column of StarHealth on 30th May 2021. Fascinatingly, the dental lecturer has outlined 11 keys to fighting mouth cancer, using the name itself as mnemonic- ‘M.O.U.T.H. C.A.N.C.E.R.’ Dr. Vaishnavi Vedam has also contributed some important statistics on oral cancer in Malaysia.

Vaccinating against infodemic

‘Vaccinating against infodemic’ is a write-up by Professor Dr. P.K. Rajesh, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic and International Affairs, AIMST University.
Professor Dr. P.K. Rajesh has proposed six measures that the government and public could adopt to control the Covid-19 pandemic and the attendant infodemic. According to him, infodemic happens when a person or a group of people's opinion or belief or understanding is considered as facts, and the false news or misinformation spreads virally.

‘E-DENT HORIZON-2021 Virtual Journey to Know the Unknown’

A dental webinar will be held on 22nd & 23rd May 2021 by the Faculty of Dentistry AIMST University. The webinar, ‘E-DENT HORIZON-2021 Virtual Journey to Know the Unknown’ will feature eminent speakers from Malaysia, the USA, and India. The webinar will consist of lectures and case discussions with specialists involving multiple specialties in Dentistry and will apprise dental students and young dental graduates on the pathways in attaining a Master’s degree in dental specialties and international fellowship. Tackling airborne virus transmission

Understand more on tackling airborne virus transmission through an article by Dr. Gokul Shankar Sabesan, who is a Senior Associate Professor and Deputy Dean (Student Affairs) at the Faculty of Medicine.
With reference to scientific findings, Dr. Gokul has elaborated on scientific reasons to believe in airborne transmission of SARS-CoV 2 that causes Covid-19 and called for a review on our SOP to ensure more diligent ways of fighting the pandemic.
