We are delighted to share that our accomplished alumna, Dr. Lim Zi Wei, BDS, MFDS, MICOI, has returned to her alma mater as an Adjunct Lecturer. Her wealth of expertise in dentistry, coupled with her educational background, makes her an invaluable addition to the Faculty of Dentistry.   As an Adjunct Lecturer, she will play a crucial role in imparting her knowledge and skills to our students, particularly in the fascinating realm of hypnodontics. Kathiresan on his recent appointment as the Vice-Chancellor of AIMST University, effective from the 1st of January 2024. Dr. S. Kathiresan brings to this role a wealth of experience, boasting 24 years of dedicated service in academia, management, and university governance. His exemplary skills in fostering relationships with both local and foreign governments, as well as international organizations, have been a cornerstone of his distinguished career. As the former Registrar of AIMST University from 2014 to 2021, Dr. S. Kathiresan played a pivotal role in shaping the university's trajectory through the implementation of impactful policies, strategic planning, and the establishment of robust governance structures. Under his leadership, the university thrived, achieving its missions and visions. His ability to lead and inspire diverse teams in a cross-cultural environment has been evident in AIMST University's growth and success. Dr. S. Kathiresan's nomination to various professional, government, and NGO committees is a testament to his standing in the academic and broader community. In addition to his administrative achievements, Dr. S. Kathiresan has significantly contributed to academia through publishing numerous papers in international journals, showcasing his profound writing and research skills. He is also responsible for overseeing the research and international affairs portfolio during his tenure as the Vice-Chancellor. TRIUMPH IN PREPAREDNESS: PHARMSA’S FIRST AID WORKSHOP SUCCESS!

The First Aid Workshop hosted by the Faculty of Pharmacy (FOP) achieved remarkable success, thanks to the collaborative efforts of the Pharmaceutical Society of AIMST (PharmSA) and St. John Ambulance Malaysia- Kawasan Kedah Tengah (SJAM). Held on 6 January 2024, from 9 am to 4 pm, the workshop, led by PharmSA Advisor Ms. Thanapakiam Ganeson and Deputy Dean of Academic and International Affairs, was a beacon of empowerment for participants. Graced by the presence of FOP Dean Prof. Dr. Nahlah Elkudssiah Ismail, PharmSA advisors (Ms. Thanapakiam and Ms. Ng Jing), and St. John Ambulance members, the workshop aimed to equip pharmacy students with essential first aid skills to excel as frontliners. The event featured informative talks on first aid, followed by hands-on training in CPR, Choking First Aid, and Bandaging Techniques. The workshop's impact transcended theoretical knowledge, as participants demonstrated their newfound skills in real-life scenarios, showcasing their ability to confidently aid and make a difference in their communities. Beyond the practical skills acquired, the workshop fostered a sense of camaraderie and shared experiences among participants. The connections formed extend beyond the classroom, creating a supportive network dedicated to community well-being. Kudos to our dedicated pharmacy students for orchestrating this triumph! ASEAN-INDIA RESEARCH TRAINING FELLOWSHIP (AI-RTF)

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Maheswaran Solayappan on being selected for the ASEAN-INDIA RESEARCH TRAINING FELLOWSHIP (AI-RTF) under the host supervision of Dr. S. Kumaran at the Centre for Drug Discovery Development, Sathyabama Institute of Science & Technology, Chennai, India. His appointment as a Fellow is a testament to his outstanding achievements and dedication to advancing research in the field of applied sciences. As an Assistant Professor and Deputy Dean at the Faculty of Applied Sciences, his commitment to excellence has not gone unnoticed. We are particularly proud of Mr. Maheswaran's project titled "Elucidating the offset effects of CRISPR-induced knockout of tribbles gene using zebrafish as an excellent in vivo model in treating acute myeloid leukaemia." The research endeavours exemplify the spirit of innovation and contribute significantly to the academic and scientific community. The objectives of the AI-RTF scheme align seamlessly with his commitment to advancing research skills and expertise. This fellowship provides a unique opportunity for the exchange of knowledge and collaboration between scientists and researchers from ASEAN member countries and India. Murdoch Aspire Award winner uses algae to clean our water

It is with immense pride and joy that we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dr Ashiwin Vadiveloo on receiving the esteemed Murdoch University's Business Events Perth Aspire Award for 2023. The postdoctoral research fellow at Murdoch University's Algae R&D Centre has conducted groundbreaking work in developing a robust and cost-effective microalgae-based tertiary wastewater treatment and carbon capture system. This reflects not only his brilliance but also contributes significantly to establishing Western Australia as a global leader in the industry. An alumnus of AIMST University's biotechnology programme, Dr Ashiwin’s success is a testament to the quality education and training that our institution provides. The innovative approach to wastewater treatment, the production of algae biomass, and collaboration with experts from various disciplines exemplify the interdisciplinary ethos we strive to instill in our graduates.
