AIMST UNIVERSITY’S GLOBAL IMMERSION PROGRAMME AND MOU SIGNING WITH SRI VENKATESHWARAA COLLEGE OF PARAMEDICAL SCIENCES
We had the pleasure of welcoming 20 participants from Sri Venkateshwaraa College of Paramedical Sciences and their accompanying professors, Professor Anand Babu Kaliyaperumal and Professor Paulraj Manickavelu on 6th of August 2024. They are taking part in our Global Immersion Programme (GIP), hosted by the Faculty of Allied Health Professions. GIP at AIMST University exemplifies the commitment to fostering international collaboration and academic exchange. Over the next two weeks, we hope our guests will find this programme enriching and inspiring as they engage with our faculty, students, and the wider AIMST community. On this occasion, we also commemorate the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between AIMST University and the College of Physiotherapy, Sri Venkateshwaraa College of Paramedical Sciences. This partnership aims to expand networks for physiotherapy students and professionals, create a global community of learners, and offer opportunities for conferences, symposiums, and certification courses. CELEBRATING RUKSANA ASHRUF’S PHD ACHIEVEMENT – A TESTAMENT TO EXCELLENCE IN AIMST UNIVERSITY’S PHARMACY PROGRAM
Ruksana Ashruf, an alumna of AIMST University's Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) programme, has successfully passed her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) viva voce in Pharmacy on 30th July 2024. This achievement is a testament to her dedication, perseverance, and exceptional academic prowess. The alumna's journey was guided by her dedicated supervisors, Assistant Professor Dr. Sam Aaseer Thamby (main supervisor) and Professor Dr. Nahlah Elkudssiah Ismail (co-supervisor), whose mentorship and support were invaluable throughout her PhD journey. This event was complemented by an insightful Parent's Orientation session held at the prestigious Great Hall. Coordinated by Mr. Umahgandan, Director of the School of General & Foundation Studies (SGFS), the parent’s orientation session was both informative and engaging. His guidance and dedication provided parents with a comprehensive understanding of the academic journey their children are embarking upon at AIMST University. Additionally, the registration process proceeded smoothly, thanks to the seamless cooperation of our new students, their parents, and the staff of AIMST University. AIMST SPORTS DAY 2024 – A DAY OF EXHILARATING GAMES AND CAMARADERIE
AIMST Staff Club (ASC) is pleased to announce that AIMST Sports Day 2024, held on Saturday, 27th of July 2024, was a resounding achievement. The event brought together our vibrant campus community for a morning of exhilarating sports and camaraderie at the AIMST Sports Complex. From 7 am to almost 1 pm, participants engaged in 12 diverse and thrilling games, showcasing their athletic talents and competitive spirit. The games were a hit, with staff members competing for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes in each category, adding to the excitement and energy of the day. We saw enthusiastic participation from multiple teams across various faculties, fostering a sense of unity and teamwork. The event was not only a celebration of physical fitness but also an opportunity to connect and network with colleagues in a relaxed and enjoyable environment. The friendly competition promoted teamwork and helped strengthen bonds among staff members. A big thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to making AIMST Sports Day 2024 such a memorable occasion. COMMUNITY CARE IN ACTION – R.E.D ASSOCIATION’S SUCCESSFUL MEDICAL CAMP
On 20th July 2024, the R.E.D Association, founded by AIMST University medical students, held its annual medical camp at Sri Sithi Vinayagar Temple Sungai Petani in collaboration with AIMST Clinic. Guided by Dr. Leela Anthony and advisors Ms. Nur Adilla Bt Zaini and Ms. Nurhidayah Bt Rosman, the event was a milestone in the association's mission to "Reach Out, Embrace, and Deliver" medical care to those in need. Featuring 11 event committee members, 22 volunteers, five doctors, and four healthcare professionals, the camp provided free medical check-ups, including BMI, glucose, BP examinations, eye, and paediatric consultations. Over two months of planning culminated in serving 70 participants, exceeding the initial goal. The event, organised into 10 stations, was a success, demonstrating the association's commitment to community service. It highlighted teamwork between university members and the community, earning praise as "One of the Best Medicamps Ever." Donations and alms were significant, with the temple community providing food for volunteers and doctors. An estimated RM 200 was collected, showcasing the local participants' support for the cause. IMMERSIVE LEARNING – AIMST UNIVERSITY’S FOP STUDENTS VISIT PUSPEN IN PENANG
The Pharmacology, Toxicology & Basic Health Sciences (PTBHS) unit of the Faculty of Pharmacy (FOP) at AIMST University organised a transformative student visitation programme for Year 4 Semester 2 students to Pusat Pemulihan Penagihan Narkotik (PUSPEN) in Bukit Mertajam, Penang on 16 July 2024. A total of 37 students took part in this enlightening visit, accompanied by Asst. Prof. Dr. Sohrab Shaikh, Asst. Prof. Ts. Dr. Geethaa Sahgal, and Dr. Kamini Vijeepallam. Spearheaded by the Deputy Dean of FOP, Ms. Thanapakiam, and Asst. Prof. Ts. Dr. Geethaa Sahgal, the team set off from AIMST campus at 8 am. Upon arrival, students were immersed in the critical mission of drug addiction rehabilitation, learning about the numerous rehabilitation centres across Malaysia and the stringent regulations governing them. They also toured the various operational units within PUSPEN. This visit offered students invaluable opportunities to engage directly with staff members and clients, gaining profound insights into the rehabilitation programmes in Malaysia. MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING (MOU) SIGNING CEREMONY BETWEEN AIMST UNIVERSITY, APEX DIGITAL DENTAL, AND DR. MOOPEN’S COLLEGE OF PHARMACY
On 16 July 2024, AIMST University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with APEX Digital Dental and Dr. Moopen’s College of Pharmacy. This significant event marks the beginning of a promising collaboration aimed at enhancing academic excellence and professional opportunities for our students and faculty. The delegation from APEX Digital Dental was led by Mr. Ivan Choe, Director of APEX Digital Dental, while Dr. Moopen’s College of Pharmacy was represented by its Principal, Professor Dr. Lal Prasanth M.L. AIMST University was represented by its Vice-Chancellor & Chief Executive, Professor Dr. Kathiresan V. Sathasivam. AIMST University’s collaboration with APEX Digital Dental focuses on advancing teaching and academic discussions, particularly through Continuing Dental Education (CDE) programmes for dental technologists. Additionally, this partnership will facilitate job opportunities for AIMST dental technology students, bridging the gap between education and industry. The partnership with Dr. Moopen’s College of Pharmacy includes a range of cooperative activities such as research collaborations, student exchange programmes, and faculty exchange initiatives. SOORIDARSAN KRISHNAN – A LEADER IN FEED SAFETY AND REGULATORY AFFAIRS

A graduate of our BSc (Hons) Biotechnology programme, Sooridarsan went on to earn a master’s degree in Applied Chemistry at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS. Today, he excels as the Feed Safety & Regulatory Affairs Manager at Nutrition Technologies Sdn. Bhd., a leading insect-based animal feed manufacturer in Johor. In his role, Sooridarsan has successfully established and managed the company's Feed Safety Policy, opening export markets to Japan, Southeast Asia, and Europe. With over 13 years of experience, he has set up GMP-compliant manufacturing facilities, led high-profile audits, and served as the lead auditor for ISO 22000 Food Safety Management. Beyond food safety, Sooridarsan has developed HSE policies and protocols and crafted the company’s environmental policy aligned with UN SDGs. AIMST UNIVERSITY RESEARCHERS SECURE RM 302,650 IN FRGS 2024 PHASE 1 GRANT
We are delighted to announce that our researchers have secured RM 302,650.00 in the Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) 2024 Phase 1 from the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE). The project leaders are Dr. Yukgehnaish Kumarasan from the Centre of Excellence for Omics-Driven Computational Biodiscovery (COMBio) and Dr. Pandian Paneerselvam from the Faculty of Medicine. This achievement propels us closer to our vision of global recognition by 2025, significantly enhancing our national and international standings.
